Tintin at the Grand Palais, plus antique collectibles and boats in Paris.

The Hotel Best Western - Quartier Latin is pleased to draw your attention to various special events taking place between September 2016 and January 2017. Currently, Hergé and his great creation Tintin are featured at the Grand Palais. From November 3rd to 13th an antiques and second-hand dealers fair takes place in the Place de la Bastille. Finally, the world of boats will be presented by the Salon Nautique International de Paris from December 3rd to 11th at the Porte de Versailles Exhibition Centre.

Hergé, the father of the European comic strip

If you like the adventures of Tintin, you’ll certainly want to learn about the life and career of his creator, Georges Remi, better known as Hergé, who is spotlighted in a superb exhibition at the Grand Palais until January 2017. Visionary, insightful and ambitious, the great Belgian artist was considered to be the father of the European comic strip and the first European cartoonist to adopt the American style in his comics. Here you can see original Tintin art pages, along with those of earlier or lesser-known series such as The Exploits of Quick and Flupke (1930) and the Adventures of Jo, Zette and Jocko (1935). Come and see how and why Hergé gained such an international reputation and has sold over 200 million albums translated into several different languages.

Antiques & flea market fun for bargain hunters

If you have a passion for antiques, old collectibles, second-hand treasures and curios, then you have to check out the Salon Antiquité Brocante, a trade fair taking place in the Place de la Bastille from November 3rd to 13th. Second-hand dealers and antique shop owners present their various stands filled with furniture, clothing, décor items, painting and prints, glassware and silverware, ceramics, old linens and other charming objects. This much-loved and eagerly anticipated event will be attended by some 280 second-hand dealers and 70 antiques specialists. The Place de la Bastille will be transformed into a thriving marketplace, where the beguiling backdrop to all the bargain hunting action will be the Port de l’Arsenal, the Seine and the boats which ply its waters. And speaking of boats…

The Nautic, a showcase of everything new in the world of boating

At the end of this month you may see convoys of boats making their way through the streets of Paris on their way to the Porte de Versailles Exhibition Centre. That’s because, from December 3rd to 11th, this state of the art venue hosts the Salon Nautique International de Paris, one of the world’s leading boat shows. For this 56th edition, six exhibition halls will showcase various sectors, including sailing, tourism, board sports, equipment, rentals, motorboats, services, new technologies, fishing, fashion and leisure. Major shipyards will be showing their latest models for the first time in public. In fact, around 1,200 exhibitors and 1,500 brands will be in attendance as the Porte de Versailles transforms into the largest indoor port in France for the occasion.
